Course Description
To work in a laboratory in a sterilized manner, it is very necessary that every consumable you are using must be sterilized. For this purpose autoclaves are used generally in laboratory for sterilization purpose. The autoclave is a sealed device (similar to a pressure cooker) that kills microorganisms using saturated steam under pressure.
In part 1 of the course we are going to elaborate about how to handle and operate different types of autoclaves. In part 2 of the course, details of hot air ovens will be explained. A hot air oven is an essential laboratory equipment used to sterilize heat-stable media, chemicals, laboratory glassware, and other equipment (such as scalpels, scissors, and blades). It uses dry heat to kill microorganisms and operates from 50 to 200 °C.
Course Objectives
- To gain a complete understanding on how to operate autoclave/hot air ovens & overview of challenges & problems related to these equipment’s.
- To understand how to work with different types of autoclave/hot air ovens & Maintenance of these equipment’s with their quality control.
